Breast cancer

HISTORY: Known breast cancer with elevated liver function tests.

FINDINGS: Images 1-4 are longitudinal and transverse scans of the liver
demonstrating diffuse echogenicity.  There are very poorly defined
hypoechoic metastasis seen throughout the liver.

DIAGNOSIS: Metastatic carcinoma of the breast to the liver.

DISCUSSION: Metastatic breast carcinoma to the liver is often quite
subtle with both CT and sonography.  Occasionally, as in this case, a
diffuse heterogeneity is the predominant imaging finding.  Similarly,
breast carcinoma metastasis may be quite subtle on CT.  At autopsy this
patient had numerous metastatic deposits scattered throughout all lobes
and segments of the liver.
